1 - Khe Sanh
2 - Tet
3 - Hamlet of Ap Bac
4 - Dien Bein
5 - 1st Battle of Saigon
6 - Hamburger Hill
And more…
2). Read articles like this:
For an example, the battle at Khe Sanh. The Vietnam War battle that lasted for 77 days between Jan. 1968 and April 1968. Some think it was the beginning of the Tet Offensive but for sure it was the battle of the Ho Chi Mien Highway rights.
The city of Khe Sanh is nearby and how the area was known. It is related to the area with an opening in the rugged mountains nearby that forms a natural boundary between Laos and Vietnam known as D’Ai Lao.
Two other mountain passes provide access to North Vietnam and gave up until then unimpeded access by the North Vietnamese to run supplies to support the Vietnam War with the USA south along what became known as the Ho Chi Minh Highway.
So, it became important that the US provided a place to view the activities in South Vietnam, North Vietnam and Laos to keep the Vietnam War under control.
In 1962, an airstrip was built to utilize spy or lookout planes. They would fly to areas to look for enemy activity. It became important that the US defend this strip and camp and also for the NVA it became important that they get rid of it.
It was getting a little crowded so a camp was required and was built during the summer of 1965.
You get the general idea. There is more info, including the exact location of the site, which is supplied and also to show Vietnam War Pictures at the “Khe Sanh Veterans Home page” which we will provide as well as others.
